How ED138.si works

ED138.si is an independent guide to 2026 ED138. Its job is simple: be the most complete and most accurate place on the web for this object, and show where every fact came from.

The daily sweep

A collector runs every day on our own server. It pulls the latest orbit solution from the JPL Small-Body Database, checks the Wikipedia article and its translations, searches arXiv and OpenAlex for new papers, searches news in more than ten languages, and looks for openly licensed images on Wikimedia Commons. New items are merged into the archive with the date we first saw them; nothing is silently replaced. The orbit page keeps a history of every orbit solution, so you can see the orbit tighten as observations come in.

Editorial rules

Facts on this site come from primary sources first: the discovery paper, the Minor Planet Center, JPL and the observatory press release. Where sources disagree we say so. Several numbers repeated in the press are already out of date; for example, the earliest image is from 1937, not 2016, and the current distance is about 47 AU, not 46. News headlines are linked, never copied. Images are used only under open licences and credited as their owners require.

The 3D view

The animated solar system is computed live in your browser. Planet positions use JPL’s approximate planetary orbital elements; ED138 and the dwarf planets use their JPL Small-Body Database orbits. Sizes are to scale, which is why the planets get markers when you zoom out. ED138’s surface is an illustration, because no image resolves it. The Earth texture is NASA’s Blue Marble, and the Milky Way band sits on the real galactic plane.
